About

Simple Money NZ was founded with the idea that money can be simple. The financial advise industry, especially in New Zealand, loves to complicate investment advise and hide behind meaningless buzzwords.

Financial advisers in New Zealand have a vested interest in making investing seem complex. But, at the end of the day, successfully achieving your financial goals comes down to two fundamental concepts:

  1. Spend less than you earn
  2. Invest the difference early and often

If you get those 2 things right, you’ll be rich one day. It’s inevitable. If you get those 2 things wrong, you’ll be poor for a long time until you get those things right.

About Spencer

Kia ora, I’m Spencer. I founded Simple Money to provide a different path for New Zealand based investors. Rather than manage your money and charge outrageously high fees, we’ll develop a low-cost, automated, diversified, and simple investing strategy appropriate to your unique situation that you can implement yourself with just a few minutes of work a year.

I graduated Boston University in the United States in 2010 with a degree in economics. I commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and spent the next 12 years flying the C-17 cargo aircraft around the world. I visited over 70 countries and eventually upgraded to be a C-17 instructor and evaluator pilot.

During that time, I founded The Military Money Manual, a personal finance and investing website for US military servicemembers. I also wrote The Military Money Manual: A Practical Guide to Financial Freedom, available on Amazon. Today, I host The Military Money Manual Podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Today, I want to bring the knowledge I’ve gained with over 15 years in the personal finance and investing space to New Zealand investors. By providing fee-only financial advise, investors in New Zealand can have a solid plan and keep more of their investment returns.

The New Zealand financial advise market is dominated by commissioned-based advisers who can only recommend products they will receive a commission on. While the advise may be “free,” the commission cost is eventually passed on to the consumer.

Alternatively, the asset-under-management or AUM model takes away much of the returns of long-term investors.

When you’re ready to work with me, I offer you a 100% free, 30 min consultation call where we can see if our strategies align.
